Rajghat –
Rajghat is the memorial of our father of Nation, Mahatma Gandhi . This memorial is located between the main Ring Road which is now known as the Mahatma Gandhi Road and the banks of the Yamuna River, just southeast of Red Fort. Set amidst deep green lawns and fountains, Rajghat is surrounded by a lovely wooded area and several exotic trees creating a serene ambience.
A black stone platform in an open air complex marks the spot where Gandhi was cremated. A flame constantly burns at one end of the platform. As a sign of respect, visitors are required to remove footwear before approaching the memorial. A commemorative ceremony is held every Friday, to mark the day Gandhi died. Prayer sessions are held at the Raj Ghat on Gandhi’s birth and death anniversaries.
The Peace associated with this place clearly resembles the principle he followed in his life – “Ahimsa” . The memorial has the epitaph “Hey Ram”, believed to be the last words uttered by Gandhi.

Such a beautifully serene place truly befitting Mahatma Gandhi…
It’s a lovely, peaceful place. When I visited I was surprised how few other people there seemed to be there.
