This is a real life incident happened in my life in 2009. It was my first International assignment for Knowledge Transfer . I went to Phoenix for meeting my onsite counterparts. As It was my first International Visit, I kept my expectations high on Phoenix, but unfortunately it doesn’t serve much as , I don’t see any skyscrapers in Phoenix and that was a big disappointment. But I do got a opportunity to Visit Grand Canyon – One of the Most Wonderful Places I visited so far. I would write about it as well.
Phoenix is one of the hottest places in US , the temperature would be close to 110 F in the month of July and August and you would be able to see Sun around 7 PM in the night.
Lets talk about the header now, – The team size that I should be working is 5 including me. 3 based out of US and another person based out of UK. It was a wonderful team and they interacted so well and nice. I had so much fun interacting with them and the Knowledge Transfer was Successful and they gave a Wonderful feedback to my Manager.It was a short trip and the last week , they wanted to give me a Send off and the Onsite Manager invited the entire team to her home for a dinner.
We all went and interacted with the family members and had chit chat about friends, culture, dating, Marriage, States etc. They had lot of questions about dating, Indian Marriage and parenting and what I felt really funny when the topic went to movies, they know only Bollywood dancing, nothing more than that. May be now it might have changed. lol 🙂 . Slowly we discussed various topics and started questioning about my personal life and topic went to a emotional side…………………….
When my manager started her discussion about her son , he was affected by Cancer and he was undergoing a treatment… We all comforted her that he will be OK.. When I started discussing about this and after my completion, even I was shocked and there was a Absolute silence for a while in the hall and realized there was a Strange connection to this team…. OK, Scroll down…. for the reason !!!

As I said, its a small team of 5 members , They have excellent connect and they don’t let any member down for any thing and I could realize a beautiful bonding among them . The shocking, Surprising and Strange Connection was ………………………………………………………….

CANCER played a Vital role in the team member’s life including me …… for me, my brother died at the age of 6 due to blood cancer. When they heard this news, Every one started telling me about their loved ones affected by CANCER and even cried for a moment…. It was a moment of shock for me for a while & really not sure how to react and till now, I m not able to search the answer why this connect , as I m living some where in India and went all the way to US and there is a team of 5 and all of them ( Family members , I mean) where affected by CANCER… may be due to this emotional connect, I also did many mischievous in the project , but they NEVER escalated me instead they wanted me to continue in that Project , that time is my early stages of my Carrier and I wanted to move ahead, so I left the company in 2011 .
My First International travel created an strong impact in my life and that’s a moment I realized ” Reality is stranger than Fiction ” .
